In our close-knit TGI (Transgender, Genderqueer, and Intersex) community, the impact of violence and loss of life has been deeply felt and remains a somber reality. Over the years, we have grappled with the devastating consequences of discrimination, hatred, and transphobia. Too many lives have been tragically cut short, leaving an indelible mark on our community.
Violence against TGI individuals has resulted in physical and emotional scars that persist long after the wounds have healed. We have lost beloved friends, partners, and community members to senseless acts of aggression. Each loss serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for change and heightened awareness regarding the unique challenges faced by our community.
These experiences have galvanized us to come together, support one another, and advocate for greater inclusivity, acceptance, and justice. Our community stands as a testament to resilience and unity in the face of adversity. We continue to honor the memories of those we've lost and strive to create a world where every TGI individual can live without fear and discrimination.
As we remember the lives we've lost, we remain committed to creating a safer, more compassionate world for all members of the TGI community, and we advocate tirelessly for a future where violence and loss of life are no longer defining features of our existence.

The loss of our transgender community members has deeply shaken the foundation of our organization, Black & Pink National, and has sent ripples of grief and dismay across our state and local communities. Every individual was a beacon of hope, a symbol of resilience, and an embodiment of the strength that defines our community. Their absence has not only left a void that's palpable but has highlighted the stark realities faced by transgender individuals, particularly those of color. The challenges of intersecting identities become a somber testament to the unique battles they fought daily.
Our state and local communities have lost invaluable voices that championed equity and justice, voices that will be sorely missed but never forgotten. As an organization, we recommit ourselves to amplifying their stories, advocating for justice, and ensuring that their legacies inspire change for generations to come.

Every year on TDoR our Maryland community comes together to mourn and grieve those we've lost, and to hold the impossible truth that next year we will be back again mourning lives yet to be lost unless we collectively realize and affirm trans humanity. Simultaneously we know and hold the joy expressed by living our most authentic selves, reveling in our community's interconnected people power, steeped in knowledge of the ways we've always cared for one another, holding fast to our commitments ensuring we don't leave anyone behind. Being trans in a world not built for us requires those who love us to recommit to being by our sides in this struggle, to bringing in more allies who will value our lives as worthy.
The names we are hearing are predominantly Black and Brown transfeminine people, but not exclusively. We know that many names will not make this list for a variety of reasons, and we will hold folks in our hearts forever and always, if their death is recorded or if it is not recorded. We do not want to bury any more of our beloveds before their time. These deaths must cease, and ensure old age is a trans community inevitability.
